Wolves in the end it will have no sequel
This year he scored the return to the screen of the Brad Pitt-George Clooney duo. The two men were on the poster of Wolvesdirected by Jon Watts and released on Apple TV+ on September 27. They incarnated two fixers called to the same crime scene and forced to work together duringa night full of surprises.
While Wolves it hasn’t even been released yet, Apple decided to give it away a sequel. The announcement took place at the beginning of August. But at the same time we learned that Apple had chosen to do so reduce the release time of the film in theaters. The idea was to highlight its release on Apple TV+. Gold, this decision buried the project of a sequel.
Jon Watts explains why and takes on Apple
As part of the promotion of his new series, Skeleton crewJon Watts recently gave an interview Collider. He explained that there would undoubtedly be no follow up to Wolves. Shortly after, this information has been confirmedand the director explained why in another interview with Expiration. He shot Apple with red bullets. He explained that this was due to the platform’s decision to limit the film’s release to cinemas. And this, without even consulting it:
Their last-minute decision to go from a wide theatrical release to a streaming one was a complete surprise and was made without any explanation or discussion. I wasn’t even told until less than a week before they announced it to the public. I was completely shocked and asked them not to reveal that I was writing the sequel. They ignored my request and announced the news in their press release. Then I discreetly returned the money they had given me for the sequel. I didn’t want to talk about it because I was proud of the film and didn’t want to generate unnecessary negative press. I loved working with Brad and George (and Amy, Austin, Poorna, and Zlatko) and would happily do it again. But the truth is that Apple hasn’t canceled the Wolfs sequel. I did this because I no longer trust them as a creative partner.
This isn’t the first time a filmmaker has brought out the sulphate to attack a streaming service. Last January, Doug Liman destroyed Amazon’s decision makers following their choice not to go out Street house at the cinema.
The director will be back with us soon Skeleton crew
During his interview with ColliderJon Watts also explained that he didn’t yet know what his next project would be. But he then completed filming of the series Skeleton crewwhich will be released soon.
