Jake Borelli, who recently left Grey’s Anatomy after seven seasons, revealed a surprise that he and his colleagues only discovered when watching the series; know what it is
The exit of Jake Borelli of Grey’s Anatomy marked the end of seven seasons for one of the most beloved characters in the program’s current phase, Dr. Levi Schmitt. From an awkward inmate to an important queer character in the story, he left his impact on the series. Recently, after his departure, he has been talking about some memories involving his time on the show – including a surprise he only discovered when he watched an episode air.
The revelation came in an interview with BuzzFeed (via Cinemablend), in which Borelli commented on the shock of watching the first episode of the 17th season of Grey’s – when the covid-19 pandemic was portrayed in the series. In the plot, the protagonist Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) contracts the disease and ends up becoming unconscious, with plans going on in the doctor’s mind. In real life, she was being attended to by Dr. Schmitt, played by Borelli, to whom the character stammered “mother”, unconsciously. However, on the mental plane, who she really found was her dead husband, Derek Shepherd, character from Patrick Dempsey in the first 11 seasons of history.
“Jaicy Elliot [Dr. Taryn Helm] and I, in the middle of the pandemic, are watching the premiere of the 17th season of Grey’s Anatomy live. You see, we read all the scripts. We participated in all the episodes. These people lied to us. The script was Meredith talking to her dead mother. And suddenly, McDreamy [Shepherd/Dempsey] runs along the beach. Jaicy and I went crazy. We had no idea. And then later on, we didn’t even know other people were coming back.”
According to the Cinemablendthe then showrunner Krista Vernoff admitted to having omitted information from the cast to keep that moment a secret. The recording, made following the precautions taken during the toughest time of the pandemic, only had the necessary team available following Meredith’s unconscious plan on the beach, in which she met old characters who had died in the story.
