‘The Death of Bunny Munro’ is based on the book of the same name by Nick Cave and is expected to be released in 2025
Matt Smith will be the protagonist of The Death of Bunny Munro. The series is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Nick Cavereleased in 2009, and will feature six episodes, which will be released next year.
The production focuses on the relationship between father, Bunny Munro (Matt Smith), and son, Bunny Junior (Rafael Mathei), while dealing with grief. Check out the synopsis:
After the death of his wife Libby by suicide, Bunny Munro, a sex-addicted door-to-door beauty salesman and self-proclaimed Lothario, finds himself responsible for caring for a young son with only the vaguest notion of how to be a father. With nine-year-old Bunny Junior, he embarks on an epic and increasingly wild road trip across the south of England, as they both struggle to deal with their grief in very different ways. While Bunny bounces from one sales pitch to another, trying to seduce any woman he encounters, Bunny Junior spends his time talking to his mother’s ghost and distracting himself from the growing realization that his father isn’t just fallible — he’s a complete wreck. As he begins to fall apart, Bunny realizes he needs to do something to save his son from his own outdated notions about what it means to be a man. The Death of Bunny Munro is at once a savage cautionary tale and a moving portrait of a father and son.
Basement and Warren Elliswho already work together in the band Nick Cave & The Bad Seedscreated the production’s soundtrack. In an interview with NME, Ellis said in September: “Nick is involved in supervising in some way, just observing. We’re doing the music for the series.”
“Maybe it’s a chance to bring some of the old Grindermanwho knows!”, he added, mentioning another band they formed.
Smithin turn, stated that it is “a great honor” to work on the series with Basement and added: “It’s a brilliant exploration of love, grief and chaos. At its heart is a deep, difficult and delicate story about a father and son facing loss and change.”
