The director passed away last week, aged 78
Netflix co-CEOTed Sarandos revealed that the streaming platform intended to work with David Lynch in a series. The director passed away last Thursday, 16th, at the age of 78.
On your Instagram, Sarandos paid tribute to Lynch and spoke about the filmmaker’s relationship with Netflix.
“In my early days at Netflix, when we were just shipping DVDs across the United States, I had the most incredible experience meeting one of my all-time favorite filmmakers in his home,” he said.
He continued, “We tried to have every movie available on DVD, but one of my favorites, Eraserheadwas not commercially available. I contacted David and asked for a meeting. At his dinner table, we agreed to make a bulk purchase of Eraserhead and that Netflix would produce a DVD with all of its visionary short films.”
Sarandosthen, stated that Netflix had plans to bring a project to life with Lynch. “David and I only spoke on a few occasions after that, but years later, he came to Netflix to present a limited series, and we immediately accepted. It was a David Lynch production, full of mystery and risks, but we wanted to embark on this creative journey with this genius”, he confessed.
According to the co-CEO, the series did not happen due to Covid-19 and “health uncertainties”: “First came Covid, then some health uncertainties, and this project was never produced, but we made it clear that as soon as it was ready, we would be fully committed.” Read the full publication below:
