Brazilian version of Dreamgirls arrives at the Santander Theater in July with national cast and unprecedented Broadway adaptation

The classic musical DreamgirlsBroadway’s success in the 1980s and adapted to cinema in 2006, will win its first Brazilian montage from the day July 31in Santander Theaterin São Paulo. The national version will have Samantha Schmütz, Letícia Soares and Laura Castro in the main papers.

The male cast includes Toni Garrido like Curtis Taylor Jr. and Reynaldo Machado in the role of Jimmy Early.


A portrait of the black music industry in the USA

Inspired by the trajectory of women’s record label groups, such as the The Supremes, Dreamgirls It portrays the rise of a trio of African-American singers during the 1960s. The narrative follows Effie White, Deena Jones and Lorell Robinson-who begin as backing vocals and reach star, facing racism, industry pressures, internal disputes and the challenges of fame.


From Broadway to Cinema

Written by Tom Eyenwith songs of Henry Krieger and original choreography of Michael Bennettthe musical debuted at Broadway in 1981adding more than 1,500 presentations until 1985. The production received Six Tony Awards and Two Grammys.

The adaptation for the cinema, launched in 2006, was starring Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx. The film received eight Oscar nominations and won in two categories, including Best Supporting Actress For Hudson, who played Effie.
