Bavaria, 1999. Brilliant geologist, Anja (Henriette Confurus) returns, thanks to an internship in waters and forests, in the high palatine where, as a child, she spent her holiday and her father disappeared twenty years earlier during an excursion. During her methods of forest land, the young woman is warned by anomalies and by the strange presence of a variety of plants, which encourage her to continue her investigations, despite the disapproval of the local community. The steps of death orchestrated by Nazi Germany at the end of the Second World War represent one of the most tragic and horrible episodes of this dark period in human history. The Nazi guards, eager to prevent prisoners from falling into the hands of allied forces, dealt with the prisoners with ruthless cruelty. Those who could not keep the rhythm were massacred on the spot or left dead on the side of the roads. The SS then buried their bodies quickly on the streets. The bones are still discovered today, as mentioned at the end of The silent forest.
