Netflix officially confirmed on Thursday, July 17, the production of a live-action series based on the acclaimed franchise Assassin’s Creedin partnership with Ubisoft. The project will have Roberto Patino (Westworld, DMZ) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming) as creators, showrunners and executive producers.
The series is part of the agreement between Netflix and Ubisoft, which aims to expand the universe of Assassin’s Creed For various formats, including animations and anime style projects. From the beginning, the idea was to kick off with a live-action adaptation and now it is in full development.
“We have been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its launch in 2007. Every day working on this project, we feel more excited and honored with the possibilities that this universe offers,” Patino and Wiener in a joint statement. “Behind the show, parkour and epic battles, there is a deeply human story about identity, faith, purpose and connection.”
The two also pointed out that the focus of the narrative will be the connection between cultures and generations: “More than anything, this series is about the value of human connections. What do we lose as a species when these connections break? We are committed to delivering something unforgettable to fans around the world.”
Production also has Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin and Austin Dill from Ubisoft Film & Television, besides Matt O’Tooleas executive producers.
What is it about?
The series will be an action thriller set in the eternal conflict between two secret factions: one that seeks to control humanity through manipulation, and another fighting for the preservation of free will. As in games, the plot will move through different historical periods, always focusing on the impact of these clashes on the destiny of civilization.
