Disney relaunches the remake of Rapunzel
Rapunzel it’s 50th film that is part of the list of Disney animated classics. Published in 2010, it tells the story ofa young girl with (very) long hair who was locked in a tower by Mother Gothel, an evil witch. One day, Flynn, a bandit on the run, takes refuge in his tower. The young woman then takes him hostage before agreeing with him to get out of his prison. Together, they embark on an unlikely adventure.
In December 2024, we reported that Disney had begun development ofa live action remake From Rapunzel. But following the failure of Snow White in theaters, the big-eared studio has put this project on hold. However, Expiration teaches us the feature film is now relaunched.
Scarlett Johansson wants to play Mother Gothel
If Snow White was a box office flop, the original animated film from which it was adapted dates back to 1937. However, audiences are much more interested in live action remakes of films released more recently. This is demonstrated, for example, by the successes of Beauty and the Beast OR Lilo and Stitch. Second Expirationwants to play Natasha Romanoff’s interpreter in the MCU Mother Gothel In Rapunzel. The media does not specify whether negotiations have already begun so that she can really embody this character. We should know more about this in the coming months.
Michael Gracey is still involved, but the project hasn’t materialized yet

If the project were to come to fruition, it would have to bring to the screen a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (someone good).

In any case, the next live-action remake of a Disney animated classic will be Moana. It will come out July 8, 2026 in French cinemas. As for Scarlett Johansson, she will reveal it soon his first feature film as director, Eleanor the Great. This will be released in theaters next November 19th.
