This not only brings an extra layer of authenticity to the work, but is also an impressive example of promoting cultural representation. What you may not know is that there were original plans to shoot the entire movie in Comanche, and the decision not to shoot the movie along that road left star Dakota Beavers with mixed emotions.
Beavers was specifically questioned about the decision to shoot Prey in English instead of Comanche during an interview this month with HQ. The interviewer asked about the call to the studio and the actor who stole the show explained why he had both positive and negative views on the choice. said the beavers,
There is a mix of emotions. There was a part of me that said, “Oh, thank God.” Because I know I can perform better in English. But there’s also a little bit of like, “Dang, that would have been great A) for language preservation, but B) just because it’s cool.”
Prey She features Dakota Beavers’ first role in a movie or TV show, so it’s understandable that in this role she’d like to speak the language she knows best. But it’s also hard to argue with the positives she mentions about filming the film in Comanche, because it’s not something you do for major Hollywood releases.
Shooting the film in the correct dialect would not only have added verisimilitude to the action and a special layer to authenticity, but it would have been more compelling as Comanche and English aren’t the only languages spoken in the United States. Prey.
Moving on, Dakota Beavers also recognized the main reason for the studio’s decision: money. Offering a realistic perspective, the actor acknowledged that the film would have been more difficult to sell to the general public if it had been shot in a language other than English, and at least he’s happy that dubbing is available. He said:
I think in the end maybe it was the right decision why [the film] it has great mainstream appeal and having it in English makes it a little easier for many people. But we still have that Comanche dub. We still have it for storage.
Preythe fourth followed Predator series (excluded alien versus predator movie), is now available to stream in an endless loop and in multiple languages … as long as you have a Hulu subscription. The film received critical acclaim and was rated by many as good or better than the film that launched the series.
