Jake Gyllenhaal recalls relationship with Heath Ledger in ‘Brokeback Mountain’: “Deep love”

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jake Gyllenhaal described the experience with Heath Ledger, with whom he shared the screen in the 2005 drama.

“A deep love”. Thats how Jake Gyllenhaal recalled the relationship with Heath Ledger. The duo starred in the romantic couple of Brokeback Mountain’s Secret(2005), a film that, to this day, is considered a landmark LGBTQ+ at the movies. In an interview with vanity fair, Gyllenhaal recalled the experience with ledgerwho died in 2008:

“The relationship between me and heath while we were making this movie it was something based on a deep love for everyone we knew and who went through our lives. A deep respect for your love and your relationships.”

“A lot of jokes were made about the film, a lot of mockery. And the constant devotion [de Ledger] the seriousness and importance of the relationship between the two characters showed me how applied he was as an actor and how applied we were to the story and the movie.”

In addition to the relationship between the protagonists – “very deep and fun” -, Gyllenhaal still remembers the experience with the crew on set. According to him, the actors made breakfast daily for the entire team and walked to the recordings: “We all lived together and stayed in the community in that space”, recalls the actor.

Brokeback Mountain’s Secretis one of the most important films in the history of cinema, winning awards such as the Oscars for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director and Best Original Score, the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Film and the Golden Lion for Ang Lee.
