It was only yesterday that Netflix finally announced the release date of John Lee Hancock. Mr. Harrigan’s phone, based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, and with that date just over two months away, it’s no surprise that the marketing push has begun. Netflix has released the first images of the new film and they offer our first look at the key characters played by Jaeden Martell, Donald Sutherland and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
Fans will note that Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland are veteran actors when it comes to starring in Stephen King’s adaptations. The first in particular embodied the leader of the Losers Club, Bill Denbrough, in THIS IS Yes IT: Chapter 2while the latter played the villain Richard Straker in 2004 sales lot miniseries. Now they have joined Mr. Harrigan’s phone respectively as Craig and Mr. Harrigan, and you can preview the relationship of their characters in the table below:
Craig is a teenager who lives with his father in the small town of Harlow, Maine, and gets a part-time job as an assistant to Mr. Harrigan, who is a wealthy recluse. The two form an unlikely friendship, and when Craig wins a hefty sum of money from a scratch card lottery ticket that Mr. Harrigan gave him, he uses a portion to buy his employer a new iPhone (which is probably what we are looking for). see depicted in the image above).
Mr. Harrigan is fascinated by the device and its extraordinary potential, but dies shortly thereafter. Knowing what the phone meant to his dead friend, Craig buries it with Mr. Harrigan, whom we see in this image:
After the funeral, Craig ends up turning to the communication device in his grief and moments of conflict, but discovers that his deceased friend had a darker past than he ever thought, and horrible things begin to happen when the protagonist writes to him. . Mr. Harrigan for help.
Mr. Harrigan’s phone it’s a supernatural horror story, but it’s also a coming-of-age drama. The friendship that has formed between Craig and Mr. Harrigan is huge in this respect, but another key figure in his development during his formative years is his teacher, Mrs. Hart, played by the fantastic Kirby Howell- Baptiste:
Based on what these Mr. Harrigan’s phone The first images show us that it appears that director John Lee Hancock is developing a faithful adaptation of the Stephen King novel, included in the 2020 collection. if it bleeds – but he’s already warning fans that the film will feature some deviations from the source material.
Talk with tadum (opens in a new tab), John Lee Hancock that some changes were needed since “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone ”is not a particularly long novel. Says the director,
Because it’s a novel and it’s only about 80 pages, [you have] intervene and thematically capture what I think is trying to say and activate part of it in scenes that are not necessarily all in the novel
Stephen King has already given the film a great deal of praise, as he tweeted earlier this month that he had seen an early montage of Mr. Harrigan’s phone, and called it “nothing but brilliant”. Hopefully, the arrival of these images means that the first trailer will be available soon.
