In the last few hours the official Italian trailer of Battle Royale Director’s Cut – Restored Version in 4K, the film of the cult of the master Kinji Fukasaku (Tora! Tora! Tora!, Struggle without a code of honor), with the Takeshi Kitano. The survival movie leading achievements such as Hunger Games and the series Squid Game will be released for the first time in Italian cinemas from October 20 from CG Entertainment in collaboration with Beltrade.
Synopsis:
42 students. A challenge to the death. Just one win. Japanese Society is overwhelmed by an unprecedented economic and social crisis. 42 students were selected to participate in the annual Battle Royale program, set up by the government to discipline youth. Sent to a remote island, the students receive a weapon with orders to remove their classmates within three days. Overseeing this cruel game is the ruthless Professor Kitano. A fight to the death begins where only one will survive.

Taken from the best seller of the same name Takami Koushun (ed. Mondadori), Battle Royaleon its debut at home in December 2000 caused a sensation and subsequently became one of the most successful Asian works: Fukasaku’s dystopian thriller was in fact distributed in more than 20 countriesentry into Top 10 highest Japanese takes. Battle Royale got the critical consensus And of the public worldwide, becoming a contemporary cult. It is considered that survival movie leading achievements such as Hunger Games and the series Squid Gameas well as being a source of inspiration for other great auteurs over the years (Tarantino, who has repeatedly expressed his love for the film, chose actress Chiaki Kuriyama for Gogo’s role in Kill Bill). In an interview, Academy Award-winning director Quentin Tarantino said, “It’s great to direct Battle Royale!”
Restoration to 4K was performed by Arrow Movies in 2021 starting from the original negative of both Arrows. The restoration was approved by the screenwriter Kenta Fukasaku (son of Kinji Fukasaku), of the director of photography Katsumi Yanagijima and from Toei Company, Ltd. The restored 4K version of the Battle Royale – Director’s Cut it was presented in Italian preview on 24th Udine Far East Film Festival 2022.
