3 types of foods that increase your risk of dementia – we all eat them!

Scientists have found that some products not only contribute to the overall extra pounds, but also disrupt brain activity. People who eat a lot of these foods are 28% more likely to develop signs of dementia!

It will not be a secret for you that eating crisps, semi-finished products and sweets is harmful both for the figure and for health. But Brazilian scientists are sure: all these ultra-processed foods also lead to dementia!

For eight years, experts conducted a large-scale study in which 10,000 people participated. As a result of regular checks using unified tests for memorizing various information in middle-aged people, whose diet consisted of three quarters of ultra-processed foods, cognitive impairment of brain activity (decreased memory, performance, etc.) developed almost a third faster than in other participants in the experiment.

Scientists suggest that the development of dementia is associated with a high intake of sugar, so abundant in ultra-processed foods. Because of sugar, the body produces more cytokines, pro-inflammatory proteins that accelerate the development of brain diseases.

You can say, “It doesn’t threaten me at all, because I don’t eat chips and sweets every day!” However, it should be understood that ultra-processed foods are not just the notorious sodas, candies and snacks. In fact, most shelf-stable products fall into this category, from sauces, sausages and preserves to commercial bread and breakfast cereals or muesli, which are incorrectly positioned as nutritional products. With all this, it is easy not to notice how the diet will consist of three quarters of harmful substances!

Of course, semi-finished and shelf-stable products make life much easier. Nevertheless, you should try to slowly and steadily reduce their numbers in your diet. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, standard meats and dairy products without additives. Read ingredient labels carefully. Sometimes sugar, preservatives and other enhancing additives are hidden in even the most innocent foods!
