Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey took to the social media platform he previously ran to offer his views on Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the company, which he described as “the closest we have to of global consciousness”.
In a series of tweets Monday night that began with Dorsey posting the Radiohead song “Everything In Its Right Place,” the Block CEO began his thread by reaffirming his love for Twitter. “The idea and the service are important to me and I will do my best to protect both,” he wrote. “Twitter, as a company, has always been my one problem and my biggest regret.”
Dorsey, who plans to pay $978 million if the deal goes through, diagnosed Twitter’s past and present problems, writing that the company was following the advertising and Wall Street model. “His return from Wall Street is the right first step.”
“In principle, I don’t think anyone should own or manage Twitter. It wants to be a public good at the protocol level and not a company. However, solving the problem of being a company, Elon is the only solution I trust,” Dorsey wrote.
Dorsey, who describes himself as an 1/8-hour hippie in his Twitter bio, added: “I think [Musk’s] Mission to shed light on consciousness. ”
He continued, “Elon’s goal is to create a platform that is “as credible and broadly inclusive” as possible. This too [Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal’s] Purpose and why I chose it. Thank you both for getting the company out of an impossible situation. This is the right way to go, I believe in it with all my heart.”
Always upbeat, Dorsey concluded: “I’m delighted that Twitter continues to offer public speaking services. Around the world and in the stars!”
Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter with Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass in 2006, stepped down as CEO in November 2021.
