At the end of the first episode of The Last of Us, which aired on January 15th, Ellie reveals to have deciphered a code in relation to the songs played on the radio of Joel. The young woman realizes that when he plays songs from the 80s, the news he brings is not good.
The music that plays on the radio is the closing track of the first episode, “Never Let Me Down Again“of Depeche Mode. The track was released in August 1987 as the second single from the group’s sixth album. Music for the Masses (1987).
