Billy Connolly to receive BAFTA Lifetime Honors

Legendary Scottish comedian and actor Billy Connolly will receive the BAFTA Award, the BAFTA Fellowship Award, for his contribution to television.

Connolly, 79, has won many BAFTAs, taking home his first BAFTA Scottish Entertainment Cup in 1995 for his comedy album. Billy Connolly World Tour Scotland. He was awarded a BAFTA Special Award in 2002 and also received BAFTA Scotland’s Outstanding Contribution to Television and Film in 2012. American viewers also recognize him as Dustin Hoffman’s fourth director. Sir Billy Connolly’s 2017 Knight for Entertainment and Charity Connolly now joins the BAFTA Fellows Select Club, a group that includes actors/comedians Down French and Jennifer Sanders, documentary filmmaker David Attenborough, actress Julie Walter and Monty Python Co-founder Michael Palin.

Emma Bahr, CEO of the BAFTA Awards and Content, called Connolly a “natural treasure on stage and screen” and “adored by fans around the world”.

“I am very honored. “50 movies and I can’t remember how many TV shows like my stage comedy were added, which is a joy to remember,” Connolly said in a statement. “Something wonderful. I have no regrets at all. I had no idea there was a scholarship, but they told me it was great! It was wonderful to admit it and become a good fun friend.”

The Connolly Award will be presented to BAFTA at the Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday, May 8. Connolly, who currently resides in the US, will not be able to attend in person, but will send a recording of a welcome message that will be played during the ceremony.
