Minus 45 kg: how I lost weight to control the disease

Losing weight in some cases is necessary because it helps to cope with certain diseases. Our heroine had to master the keto diet, but she did not regret it.

“I am 22 years old, I work as a librarian. I ate problems and stress for many years until I came to a competent consultant and lost 45 kilograms.

My story

Excess weight bothered me since childhood, I never considered myself particularly beautiful and always envied slender girlfriends. The parents only made it worse. In adolescence, nothing changed, and the weight exceeded the scale by 120 kilograms.

Two years ago I realized that I needed to learn how to manage my emotions with more than food, and I went for a check-up. As a result, it turned out that I have an autoimmune disease, for which I constantly have to take medication.

I started researching this issue and found that the ketogenic diet can improve my condition and help me lose weight. I learned the basics, learned how to cook meals with the right foods, then added intermittent fasting: I started with a 12-hour window, now it’s convenient for me to eat midday at 6 p.m., and drink tea, coffee and water the rest of the time. It fits well into my daily schedule, so there were no addiction issues.

What am I eating now

Breakfast: as I don’t usually have breakfast, it consists of coffee. And so on keto, you can eat, for example, eggs with ham.

Lunch: beans with butter and spices.

Snacks: nuts, cheese.

Dinner: chicken or beef with brown rice, sometimes with vegetables.

My workouts

The first year of losing weight, I did nothing, now, depending on my mood, I do two to five times a week. I have a great program at work – two workouts a week at lunchtime, and I use it actively. The rest of the day, I do cardio and strength training in the gym or at home.

What helped me

First, I stopped eating carbs in such amounts as before. They helped me capture emotions, but I realized I didn’t need them at all!

Second, I started tracking what I eat, learned a lot of new (and mostly nasty) things, so the transition to healthy eating was easier than it looked.

Finally, I started cooking at home. I stopped eating fast food – and immediately felt better! Now it’s easier for me to cope with the disease and not think about what the extra piece of cake will lead to, because it just won’t.
