Olympic swimming champion Adam Ramsay-Peaty says he will forgive his estranged family but will not forget what has happened, and insists the truth will come out one day about the rift that has divided them.
The 31-year-old, speaking to The Guardian, said his Christian faith means forgiveness is possible, but set conditions on any reconciliation. He said it has to come from a place where he feels his family have improved as people and have opened up communication.
He added that he has not told a single thing to the media and has not done one story, while speculation about the row has swirled publicly.
Roots of the feud
The conflict dates to 2024, when Adam and his now-wife Holly Ramsay did not invite wider members of the Peaty family to their engagement party or wedding. The dispute has escalated since then.
Earlier this week, Adam’s parents Caroline and Mark, who were not in Glasgow to watch him compete, begged for a reconciliation after watching him win a double bronze at the Commonwealth Games. A family source told the Daily Mail their message was for Adam to come home and talk to his mother, urging him not to hurt her any more.
The source said the family had only ever loved and supported him and never thought he would treat them the way he has.
Tears in Glasgow
Adam broke down in tears following his third-place finish in the 100m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games, saying the family fallout had taken its toll during training. Caroline and Mark watched from home while his pregnant wife Holly, whose father is chef Gordon Ramsay, was in the stands and embraced him after his swim.
The family source pushed back on Adam blaming relatives for his performance, and also criticised him for not praising Scottish swimmer Archie Goodbourn, 25, who reached the 50m breaststroke final despite being diagnosed with inoperable brain tumours in 2024.
Adam left Glasgow with three medals: two bronze in the individual 50m and 100m breaststroke, and a silver in the mixed 4x100m medley relay. It was his first competition under his new married surname, Ramsay-Peaty.
Focus on family and 2028
Holly, 26, was quick to support her husband on Instagram, sharing photos of the pair and writing that watching his comeback to championship racing had been inspiring. She said it had not been an easy journey but that his determination and faith had never wavered.
Adam said he aims to be back on top form for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and that he will almost have to forget the experience of this week and learn from it very quickly. He also said he wants to get lost in being a husband and father as he and Holly prepare to welcome a daughter in December.
