Waterloo Road actor Adam Thomas has revealed a gun was pointed at his head on a double-decker bus when he was a teenager.
The 38-year-old actor opened up about the terrifying ordeal during an episode of the At Home With The Thomas Bros podcast, which he co-hosts with his brothers Ryan and Scott Thomas.
Adam recalled that he was around 14 or 15 years old and sitting at the back of the double-decker bus when a group of young men boarded the vehicle and brandished a weapon.
"I got a gun pulled to my head on a bus," Adam told his brothers. "It was when I was like, how old was I? About 15, 14. And I was sat at the back of the bus on a double decker."
He explained that he initially believed the firearm was fake until the group showed him live ammunition inside the weapon. "And this group of lads got on and they basically pulled out a gun and put it to my head and I thought it was like a pretend gun," he said. "Then they took the like revolver out and showed me all the bullets and I just s**t myself."
His older brother Ryan Thomas, 42, reacted with shock to the story, lightheartedly comparing the situation to a violent video game. "What! Were you in like Grand Theft Auto or something?" Ryan asked.
Adam Thomas is best known for portraying Donte Charles in the BBC school drama series Waterloo Road and Adam Barton in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. His brother Ryan gained prominence playing Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street, while Scott Thomas starred on the ITV2 reality show Love Island.
Separate beds in Manchester
The podcast revelation comes shortly after Ryan's fiancée, former The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh, explained why the couple sleep in separate beds at their primary residence.
Lucy, 35, who has been in a relationship with Ryan since 2017 and got engaged to him two years later, recently spoke to The Mirror about their nocturnal arrangements after Ryan admitted on air that they do not share a bed in Manchester.
"Ryan snores and sleep talks, and I need my sleep," Lucy told The Mirror. "I have to sleep, especially with two young kids. It's full-on, so I'd just turf him out to the spare room because I'd be like, 'Shut up!', and that kind of evolved."
She previously expanded on the situation last year, stating: "Basically Ryan snores, he sleep talks, he whacks me in his sleep."
Ryan had initially detailed the setup on an episode of At Home With The Thomas Bros last month, telling listeners that the couple have a main residence in Manchester and a second home in London.
"In Manchester, we stay in separate beds and we have separate living rooms," Ryan explained. He added that because their London property is smaller, they share a bed when staying in the capital: "Well we do now, because we haven't got enough rooms in London."
His brother Adam expressed strong disapproval of the arrangement during the episode. "I think it's f***ed up personally as well," Adam told Ryan. "You need to stay in the same bed as her."
Wedding plans put on hold
Lucy also addressed why the couple have not yet finalized their wedding plans despite being engaged since June 2019.
"I think it's become harder because we had kids before we got married," Lucy told The Mirror, noting that having a family alters personal priorities.
The couple share two children: six-year-old son Roman and four-year-old daughter Lilah. Ryan is also father to 17-year-old daughter Scarlett from a previous relationship with former Coronation Street co-star Tina O'Brien.
Along with raising two young children, Lucy noted that moving to Manchester in recent years has made life "really full-on." Their wedding plans were originally interrupted a year after their engagement when the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020, forcing them to put their nuptials on hold.
Despite the delays, Lucy confirmed that getting married remains something they intend to do in the future, stating: "We would love to one day."
Copenhagen trip and romantic affection
The discussion regarding their relationship follows an episode in April when Scott and Adam teased Ryan over a recent romantic break in Copenhagen, Denmark.
During their stay at the luxury Hotel Bella Grande, Ryan shared photobooth pictures of himself and Lucy kissing. Scott admitted on the podcast that he was surprised by the post because Lucy typically avoids public displays of affection.
"I saw some pictures of you two kissing in a photobooth," Scott said. "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This is a bit PDA for Lucy."
Ryan defended the photos, telling his brothers: "I just validated my love for Lucy. I was so in love this trip. I felt like she was."
The statement drew laughter from Scott and Adam, with Adam suggesting they call Lucy directly to ask her. Ryan then expressed how deeply committed he remains to his fiancée after nine years together.
"I just love her so much," Ryan said. "I know she was in love and she had the best time and I've come back and I love that woman you know. I'm the luckiest man in the world, I fancy her so much and I'm besotted with her."
