Alaska album No Es Pecado gets 40th anniversary reissue

Record label Warner Music has confirmed that No Es Pecado, the landmark 1986 Spanish pop album created by Alaska, Carlos Berlanga and Nacho Canut, will return on November 13 in a special XL reissue edition.

The anniversary release, which is already available for advance order, will be available as a double LP set in colored vinyl featuring an exclusive booklet of previously unreleased photographs. It will also include all the original remixes released in 1986, alongside a single CD edition remastered for digital playback.

The original album marked a major shift for the Spanish music group Alaska y Dinarama, formed in Madrid during the cultural movement known as La Movida Madrileña. Released four decades ago, the project followed the overwhelming commercial success of their 1984 record Deseo Carnal.

Funk and electronic influences

Produced by British record producer Nick Patrick, the trio reconfigured their sound by incorporating elements of funk, soul and electronic dance music. The record generated notable tracks such as La funcionaria asesina, Sólo creo lo que veo and Alto, prohibido pasar.

The album's most influential track, A quién le importa, established itself as a widespread anthem of freedom, tolerance and self-determination across the Hispanic world. The song remains one of the most prominent pop compositions of the 1980s era in Spain.

Electropop legacy and Madrid concert

Following the end of Alaska y Dinarama, singer Olvido Gara, known professionally as Alaska, and bassist Nacho Canut formed the electropop duo Fangoria in 1989. Carlos Berlanga, who co-wrote much of the group's material, pursued a solo career before his death in 2002.

Fangoria will return to the stage on October 24 at the Movistar Arena in Madrid as part of the lineup for the CADENA 100 POR ELLAS concert. The annual music event brings together top artists to support charitable causes in Spain.

The upcoming Madrid concert will benefit the Spanish Association Against Cancer, known as the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer. Organisers described the solidarity performance as a key gathering for fans ahead of the November album reissue.
