Spanish footballer Alexia Putellas stepped out in a custom Dior gown at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony in London on Monday. The red carpet brought together some of international football's biggest names, with the Barcelona midfielder delivering one of the most talked-about appearances of the night.
The bespoke ivory silk satin creation was designed expressly for Putellas by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Dior. Far from a conventional evening dress, the design drew direct inspiration from classical antiquity to reflect the athlete's career achievements.
Putellas, who captains FC Barcelona and has won the Ballon d'Or Féminin twice, wore a floor-length gown featuring an off-the-shoulder cut, a crossover neckline, and delicate draping reminiscent of ancient Greek tunics.
Greek goddess inspiration and feather details
The defining detail of the styling appeared on the skirt. A pronounced side opening was framed by a cascade of feathers running down to the train, lending lightness and fluid motion to the garment.
To achieve the effect, the design combined multiple textiles, blending silk satin with layers of organza and chiffon. The mix of textures allowed the feather-lined silhouette to hold its shape while moving gracefully across the red carpet.
Anderson based the design on Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory. In classical mythology, Nike represents triumph, perseverance, and strength, qualities that the designer chose to honour Putellas and her path through world football.
Boucheron peacock feather jewellery
To accompany the custom Dior gown, Putellas selected jewellery from the French luxury house Boucheron. She chose pieces from the Parisian maison's Plume de Paon collection, which takes inspiration from peacock feathers.
The Barcelona star wore a pair of white gold earrings adorned with pearls and diamonds. She added two matching rings from the same collection, one featuring a white pearl surrounded by diamonds and another highlighted by a 0.4-carat diamond.
The feather motif of the jewellery mirrored the detailing on her gown, creating a unified look that blended fine jewellery craftsmanship with high fashion.
Styling and beauty by Alba Melendo
The look was assembled by fashion stylist Alba Melendo, who has previously worked with high-profile figures including music artists Aitana, Karol G, and Bad Gyal, as well as Georgina Rodriguez.
For the London gala, Melendo chose understated hair and makeup to keep full attention on the dress and jewellery. Putellas wore her hair down in loose, soft waves with a side parting.
Her makeup remained fresh and natural, allowing the intricate couture gown and the Boucheron gems to take centre stage. The appearance brought sport and haute couture together, using the Ballon d'Or red carpet as a platform to celebrate victory through fashion.
