Television personality Alysia Vasey, known to viewers as The Yorkshire Forager on ITV's James Martin's Saturday Morning, has announced she is divorcing her husband after less than a year of marriage.
The wild food expert revealed her marriage ended prior to Christmas, claiming she lost almost all her money after being taken for a ride in what she described as a toxic relationship.
Vasey, who has never publicly named her ex-husband, detailed the split in emotional posts on Instagram, alleging that her former partner racked up credit card bills and left her feeling trapped.
Speaking on social media, Vasey explained that there were certain boundaries in a relationship that could not be overcome. "Let's just say there's a couple of things that you can't come back from," she told her followers.
She stated that her ex-husband gave her an ultimatum regarding long-standing mobility issues, warning her that he would leave if a potential knee operation proved unsuccessful.
"Getting married, and being told, and you all know I've got dodgy knees, I've had dodgy knees for ages, that if you had a knee operation and it didn't work, they didn't want to be with you anymore," Vasey said in her video post.
"Because they're not going to be looking after a disabled person and the house wasn't suitable for that sort of person."
In addition to the ultimatum regarding her health, Vasey claimed her husband insulted her family heritage after learning about her ancestral history.
She claimed he referred to her family as "Polish scum" once he discovered that her grandfather had fought in the Second World War.
Writing in an accompanying caption, Vasey admitted she had hesitated before speaking out but hoped sharing her experience would help her move forward.
"Thought long and hard about this, but it's helping me putting this out there, the words that you just cannot forgive or go back on," she wrote.
"I made excuses to myself thinking, they didn't mean it. But living a toxic life is no good for anybody. If you're dealing with this or you've managed to escape then please share in the comments and rebuild brighter and better."
Financial loss and public disclosure
The announcement follows earlier social media updates in which Vasey disclosed that the breakdown of her marriage had left her in severe financial hardship.
Taking off her wedding ring on camera, the former teaching assistant told fans she felt compelled to come clean because there was no point wearing a ring when a marriage was over.
"So this is a hard one. I feel like coming clean because there's no point wearing a wedding ring when your marriage is over," she said in the video message. "And it has been since before Christmas. I know I haven't been married long."
The ITV regular described herself as a strong believer in marriage who had been severely taken advantage of financially over recent months.
"I'm a big believer in love, marriage, everything. But I just got taken for a ride. Got all the money taken from me. Everything. Absolutely everything. It's been a struggle. Absolute struggle these last eight, nine months. I didn't expect it," Vasey stated.
She confessed to feeling embarrassed by the breakdown of the relationship, admitting she was now living on her own.
"I feel a bit embarrassed by it all, but it is what it is. So I'm on my own and I didn't expect that," she said, before closing the video by saying: "Anyway, I feel like I've come clean now, so it is what it is, isn't it? Anyway, goodnight. I hope you're all well."
In her post caption, Vasey added that she had put on a brave face during four years of difficult times, losing almost everything while managing to break free.
"I'm still coming to terms with everything and hopefully one day will find the peace and love that I deserve," she wrote.
Marriage timeline and televised announcement
The breakdown of the marriage comes less than a year after Vasey publicly celebrated her wedding to her partner.
In January 2024, Vasey had shared a photograph of her engagement ring on X, formerly Twitter, announcing her partner's proposal on New Year's Eve.
"My love proposed to me on New Year's Eve... and I said Yes!" she wrote at the time, adding: "Looking forward to spending a lifetime together... (what's left of it knocking on a bit) an exciting year ahead!"
In February 2025, Vasey revealed during an appearance on James Martin's Saturday Morning that she had recently married, telling host James Martin she would be taking her new husband's surname of Greenwood.
Martin joked on air that he would struggle with the change, saying: "I am not going to get the hang of this. I have been calling you Alysia Vasey for years now."
Vasey replied: "Better foraging name, Greenwood!"
In the months before the separation, Vasey shared photos of their travels together, including a holiday snap from Sorrento in Italy taken in August 2025.
Career as The Yorkshire Forager
Vasey built her career in gastronomy after stepping away from her former role as a school teaching assistant to pursue wild food foraging full-time.
She now makes her living supplying top Michelin-starred restaurants across the UK with wild ingredients, while making regular broadcast appearances on ITV and BBC rural flagship show Countryfile.
Her passion for foraging stemmed from a childhood spent walking through woods and moors in Yorkshire with her brother Adrian and their grandfather.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Vasey recalled how her grandfather nurtured her knowledge of wild plants, nuts, berries, and mushrooms during weekend walks.
"Every weekend me and my brother Adrian would go for walks in the woods and on the moors with our grandad as he searched for plants, nuts, mushrooms and fruit," she told the publication.
"I don't ever remember him teaching me exactly, but I copied him and listened and he would test my knowledge, correcting me if I went wrong."
"Thanks to grandad by the time I was seven or eight I could identify every tree, plant, flower, animal and bird that we came across. I knew which plants, nuts, berries and mushrooms were safe to eat and which had to be left alone."
While researching her 2020 book, The Yorkshire Forager: A Wild Food Survival Journey, Vasey discovered that her Polish grandfather had originally learned to forage out of necessity while hiding in the woods from Nazi forces during the Second World War.
Vasey initially established her commercial business, Yorkshire Foragers, in 2010 alongside her first husband Chris and with support from her mother, laying the foundation for her career as a television chef and author.
