Amazon has moved a third Heat film into active development, according to sources who spoke with The Wrap.
The studio has not disclosed details about what Heat 3 will cover, but the project is expected to expand the franchise built by director Michael Mann.
The announcement comes as the in-progress sequel is also drawing significant attention. Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are set to star in the lead roles of Heat 2, with principal photography scheduled to begin in November 2026.
The original Heat was released in 1995. Directed by Mann, the crime thriller centers on a confrontation between Los Angeles's most dangerous criminals and the detectives pursuing them. Mann spent several years seeking financing for a sequel before the project finally moved forward.
