Andrew Mountbatten Windsor had his sworn statement about a harassment incident read at Westminster Magistrates Court during proceedings against Alex Jenkinson. Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram read the statement detailing an encounter near the Sandringham estate. Jenkinson, 39, faces charges of causing fear of unlawful violence and improper conduct in Wolferton, near Marsh Farm.
Suffolk Police are also seeking a Stalking Protection Order based on findings from the defendant's mobile phone. In his statement, Windsor said he was walking his dogs when he noticed a vehicle thought to belong to a photojournalist. He said he saw a man turn to look at him while wearing a hood that covered his face.
Windsor added that an unleashed dog ran toward the man, who then realized who Windsor was and ran behind his vehicle. Jenkinson, who denies a public order charge, was previously detained under mental health legislation and admitted refusing to give a blood sample.
Courtroom debate over support dog
Jenkinson did not enter the courtroom for Thursday's hearing because he was with his dog, Indie. His lawyer, Claire Howell, said Jenkinson is homeless and staying at a Travelodge where dogs cannot be left behind. She said the dog provides support because Jenkinson suffers from ADHD.
Judge Ikram refused to allow the dog inside without medical certificates, stating he would not permit an animal in court simply because an owner is homeless. He said he was not accusing Jenkinson of lying, but noted there was no documentation to confirm the condition.
The court extended the interim protection order and scheduled a preliminary hearing in Loughborough for January 22. The main trial is set for February 16 at Westminster Magistrates Court.
