Astrologer Atlas has detailed recommended autumn hobbies for every zodiac sign based on their astrological traits in a guide for Better Homes & Gardens.
As cooler autumn weather prompts people to spend more time indoors, Atlas noted that observing the traits of a sign ruling element and modality can help individuals identify fulfilling seasonal activities. In astrological traditions, the twelve zodiac signs are categorized by four elements (fire, earth, air, and water) and three modalities (cardinal, fixed, and mutable), which astrologers believe influence personality traits and behavioral tendencies.
Recommendations for Aries, Taurus and Gemini
Aries, spanning March 21 to April 19, is the first sign of the zodiac and operates as a cardinal fire sign. Known for a bold, ambitious, competitive, and energetic nature, Aries individuals often approach life with an unquenchable thirst for new challenges. Atlas described Aries as positive, charismatic, and bright natural leaders. To match this high energy, Atlas suggested setting up a home brewery as an ideal autumn project. Home brewing involves fermenting grains or sweetened teas to produce craft beer or kombucha. However, Atlas warned Aries not to turn the hobby into a fierce global competition to brew the best beverage, citing their intense competitive drive.
Taurus, covering April 20 to May 20, is a warm and grounded earth sign that prioritizes cozy, sensory experiences. Pleasant sounds, tastes, textures, and scents rank high for Taurus individuals, who appreciate quality while remaining willing to work hard. Atlas stated that bread baking is the perfect cozy pastime for Taurus. While traditional loaves are a reliable choice, Atlas specifically recommended baking focaccia, an Italian flatbread known for its soft, airy texture. Focaccia can be customized with savory toppings like herbs and vegetables, or sweet additions like chocolate and syrups. Atlas noted that once someone tries baking focaccia, they will be unable to stop.
Gemini, running from May 21 to June 21, is the first air sign and is symbolized by the celestial twins. Described as the social butterflies and life of the party, Geminis are curious, creative, and socially agile. They frequently manage multiple commitments across careers, hobbies, and social circles simultaneously, a trait traditionally attributed to their twin symbolism. Ruled by Mercury, the planet associated with communication, Geminis were advised by Atlas to launch their own blog or Substack newsletter. Substack allows creators to publish digital writing directly to readers. For those seeking topic ideas, Atlas suggested writing about personal interests such as favorite recipes, weekend travel, and product recommendations.
Activities for Cancer, Leo and Virgo
Cancer, spanning June 22 to July 22, is a cardinal water sign represented by the celestial crab. Cancer individuals are known for strong intuition, emotional responsiveness, compassion, and a focus on domestic life. They prioritize creating welcoming, safe spaces for family and friends. Because Cancer rules the stomach in traditional astrology, they often act as generous hosts who express care through homemade food. Since Cancer hosts may already excel at routine cooking and baking, Atlas suggested taking up home canning and food preservation. Preserving cucumbers, tomatoes, jams, and jellies allows Cancers to add homemade care to their family meals through sealed glass jars.
Leo, covering July 23 to August 22, is a fire sign ruled by the Sun and symbolized by the lion. Leos are characterized by loyalty, playfulness, passion, and a flair for drama. As natural performers governed by the Sun, which rules the heart, they possess innate confidence, courage, and charisma. Leos often gravitate toward creative self-expression. For Leos looking to slow down during the cooler months, Atlas recommended creative cross-stitch embroidery. Cross-stitching is a traditional handcraft that uses tiled X-shaped stitches on fabric grid patterns to construct detailed decorative designs.
Virgo, running from August 23 to September 22, is a logical earth sign recognized for intelligence, attention to detail, and perfectionism. Virgos possess active minds that thrive when solving complex problems or completing structured tasks, leading to high-quality results. To help analytical Virgos unwind, Atlas suggested adopting a morning pages journaling routine. Morning pages involve writing stream-of-consciousness entries immediately upon waking. Atlas explained that this practice helps clear a crowded mind, organize ambitious ideas, and track personal goals across different areas of life.
Projects for Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius
Libra, spanning September 23 to October 23, is a cardinal air sign marking the arrival of autumn. Libras are known for sophisticated taste, a desire for harmony, and an appreciation for aesthetics. Recognized as natural diplomats and mediators, Libras value companionship and balanced environments. For this aesthetically minded sign, Atlas stated that candle making is an ideal seasonal fit. Handcrafted candle making combines melted waxes with aromatic oils and wicks to produce custom decorative lighting for the home.
Scorpio, covering October 24 to November 21, is a passionate water sign associated with emotional depth and introspection. Scorpios possess a powerful, charismatic, and mysterious presence, seeking deep personal connections with friends and partners. Atlas recommended that Scorpios experiment with crafting homemade coffee syrups and cold foams. Cold foam is a textured, whipped milk topping used to enhance chilled or hot espresso drinks. Atlas added that a quiet session of autumn introspection pairs naturally with a steaming cup of coffee.
Sagittarius, running from November 22 to December 21, is the final fire sign of the zodiac. Known as natural storytellers, explorers, and the humorists of the zodiac, Sagittarians win people over with charm and wit while pursuing multiple passions. For this adventurous sign, Atlas suggested upcycling and reimagining old clothing. Garment upcycling involves altering, sewing, or reassembling old textiles into fresh fashion pieces, offering a creative outlet that reuses existing materials.
Pursuits for Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces
Capricorn, spanning December 22 to January 19, is a cardinal earth sign known for reliability, practicality, and an ambitious work ethic. Despite their serious and structured reputation, Capricorns also possess a playful side. Because Capricorns struggle to slow down amidst their busy schedules, Atlas noted that even the most hardworking individuals require restful leisure. Atlas recommended calligraphy as a suitable autumn hobby for Capricorn. Calligraphy is the traditional art of decorative handwriting using specialized ink pens or brushes.
Aquarius, covering January 20 to February 18, is an air sign focused on humanitarian causes, social progress, and the common good. Aquarians prioritize community values, moral principles, and ethical standards, seeking to make a positive impact even during free time. Consequently, Atlas suggested collecting activities for Aquarius, particularly those centered on ethical, sustainable, or vintage items. Collecting vintage goods involves sourcing secondhand artifacts from antique dealers or estate sales to preserve historical items.
Pisces, running from February 19 to March 20, is the final water sign, described as deeply empathetic, intuitive, and sensitive. Pisceans are considered artistic trendsetters who are in touch with their emotions. For this caring sign, Atlas recommended crafting custom tea blends and dried herb infusions. Herbal tea blending combines dried botanicals, spices, and leaves to create aromatic beverages. Atlas noted that Pisceans can enjoy these comforting drinks at home or package their custom blends as handmade gifts for friends and family.
