Belmont Cameli Speaks Out Over Online Harassment From Fans

Belmont Cameli has detailed the online abuse and paparazzi scrutiny he and his family faced following his breakout role in Prime Video series Off Campus.

Belmont Cameli Speaks Out Over Online Harassment From Fans

Actor Belmont Cameli has spoken out about online harassment and invasive fan behavior following the breakout success of his television series Off Campus.

The 28-year-old actor, who plays hockey player Garrett Graham in the teen drama, revealed that internet harassment escalated to include racist threats directed at the family of his long-term partner, influencer Raina Morris.

Rising pressure and online hostility

Cameli discussed the challenges of sudden fame during a joint interview with National Hockey League athlete Macklin Celebrini for The Hollywood Reporter. He explained that acting brings intense public commentary not only regarding performance on screen, but also surrounding personal life.

The actor said the sudden appearance of paparazzi felt new and strange after he became a star overnight. While he described the widespread support from viewers as incredible, he warned that modern internet fandom sometimes crosses acceptable boundaries.

Cameli told Celebrini that modern online culture carries a real malice in how people place public figures under the spotlight, leaving performers feeling constantly watched.

Handling attention and street encounters

Despite the pressure, Cameli said he believes he is coping well with both positive and negative attention. He noted that staying grounded in his personal reality and self-awareness keeps external commentary from affecting his wellbeing.

He described the overwhelming public chatter as mere noise, adding that meeting appreciative viewers in public remains a pleasant experience. However, he noted that some encounters feel intrusive, such as when people run directly up to him with cameras in his face without saying hello. He added that most fans remain excited and friendly overall.

When Off Campus first premiered, Cameli admitted to searching his own name on social media platforms, where he found largely positive commentary alongside some negative posts. He confirmed he has since stopped vanity searching, explaining that he now makes deliberate choices to protect his mental state and focus on relationships that benefit his life.

Targeting of family and studio intervention

The online hostility intensified due to fan obsession over the fictional romance between Cameli and co-star Ella Bright, who portrays character Hannah Wells. Viewers frequently pressured the two lead actors to pursue an off-screen relationship, ignoring Cameli's long-standing relationship with Morris.

The harassment culminated in social media account intrusions and targeted attacks against Morris and her relatives. Influencer Morris released a statement on social media asking fans of her boyfriend to refrain from sending messages to her family members, who she said were left deeply confused by the barrage of hostile and racist messages.

The situation prompted streaming service Prime Video to issue an official statement appealing to fans to stop attacking members of the cast and their families.

Cast relationship rumors and heavy work schedules

Speculation surrounding the cast grew after Cameli archived social media photographs featuring Bright and promotional material for the first season of Off Campus. The move triggered online rumors of a potential rift among the cast members.

However, Cameli spoke about Bright naturally during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He recalled that during production last year, the pair worked intense schedules of nearly 80 hours a week, noting that such demanding workloads often led him to skip breakfast.

Background and production context
