Beyoncé turned 45 on September 4, 2026, and marked her birthday by releasing a 20th-anniversary reissue of her second studio album, B'Day, unveiling new Spanish-language recordings made with artists including Maluma and the late Selena Quintanilla.
The singer, born Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter in Houston, Texas, on September 4, 1981, first released B'Day on September 4, 2006. The new edition, titled B'Day 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition, arrives exactly twenty years after the original.
Beyoncé described the original album as an attempt to fuse hip-hop with the bridges, melodies and harmonies that have always been the essence of R&B. The reissue keeps that spirit while adding a side of her artistry not previously heard, drawing comparisons to the Cuban singer Celia Cruz.
Cuerpo (Tumbao) With Maluma
One of the standout new additions is "Cuerpo (Tumbao)," a collaboration with the Colombian singer Maluma that samples Celia Cruz's classic "La Negra Tiene Tumbao." The song gives an early taste of Beyoncé's grasp of Spanish, including a sung line in which she admits her Spanish "doesn't look very good" ("mi español no luce muy bien"), even as the track itself suggests otherwise. The release marks another attempt by Beyoncé to reach her Spanish-speaking audience and has again put her name in international headlines.
A Duet With Selena Quintanilla
The Spanish version of "Irreplaceable," retitled "Irreemplazable (Como una flor)," revives the voice of Selena Quintanilla, the Tejano singer who died at age 23. The duet was approved by Selena's heirs and grew out of what Beyoncé's team has described as her deep admiration for the artist known as the "Texan Madonna." The reissue also includes "Listen (Oye)," a Spanish rendition that keeps the same rawness and power that have long defined Beyoncé's voice.
In an Instagram post, Beyoncé's team said the resounding approval of Selena Quintanilla's heirs made the timely and meaningful duet possible, describing the two singers as women from Texas whose unmistakable, irreplaceable voices broke barriers and continue to do so. The post said Beyoncé revered Selena and remembers hearing her on the radio in Houston, and credited her as the inspiration behind the recording of "Irreemplazable," the Spanish-language EP Beyoncé released in 2007.
Amor Gitano and Other New Tracks
The reissue also brings back "Amor Gitano," a song Beyoncé originally recorded with the Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández in 2006, now revisited as part of this anniversary celebration. Beyond the Spanish-language material, the deluxe edition adds a batch of rare and previously unreleased tracks: "Morning Dew (Donk)," "Can I Watch You" (produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams), "My First Time," "Lost Yo Mind," "Creole" and "Back Up."
