Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will return for its second season in January 2027 alongside a first teaser trailer for the animated series.
The streaming platform also announced that the critically acclaimed show will conclude with a third and final season scheduled to premiere in 2028.
The first season of the adult animated drama debuted on Netflix in late 2023 to strong viewer reception. Netflix ordered a second season shortly after the initial release, but after giving an update in July 2025, the streamer provided no further details until now.
Blue Eye Samurai is an adult animated action series created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green. Set in 17th-century Japan during the Edo period, the story follows Mizu, a mixed-race female sword master who disguises her gender while pursuing revenge against four white men remaining illegally in the country.
Teaser trailer and London storyline
The upcoming second season is scheduled to arrive in January 2027. Netflix accompanied the release window with a first teaser trailer offering a glimpse into the next chapter of Mizu's quest.
The new episodes will pick up directly from the events of the season one finale, which saw Mizu set sail for London. She travels to England to locate the two men who could still potentially be her father, taking her quest for revenge far beyond Japan into entirely unfamiliar territory.
While in London, Mizu must face new enemies, familiar adversaries, and her own inner struggles. Series co-creator Amber Noizumi previously stated that it would be particularly interesting to show how Europeans react to Mizu and how she navigates a Western culture she had only known from a distance.
Final season announced for 2028
Alongside the premiere month for season two, Netflix revealed that the series will end after its third season. The final installment is set for release in 2028, giving the story a clear ending point.
With the third season confirmed as the final entry, Mizu's story will span two more seasons to complete her personal journey of revenge.
