A new book claims David Beckham delivered a lengthy wedding speech praising his son Brooklyn without saying a single word about the bride, Nicola Peltz, in what author Alison Boshoff describes as a striking departure from tradition.
Boshoff writes about the incident in her book The Beckham Brand: The Fame. The Feuds. The Fall, arguing that on a day when it is customary to praise the bride, David did not do so. Guests reportedly noticed the omission and were unsettled by how insistently David praised his son while paying almost no attention to the newest member of his family.
One account cited in the book described the speech as seeming to have no end, calling it one of the strangest moments of the day and suggesting it almost seemed as though David were the one marrying Brooklyn.
The atmosphere the following day was reportedly no better. Between the speech, what the book describes as an uncomfortable moment involving Victoria Beckham dancing on stage, and other incidents, the tension the day after the wedding was said to be overwhelming. Guests described it as feeling like someone had died, with one account comparing it to a crime scene.
The book also recounts that Nicola’s mother, Claudia Peltz, asked seamstresses at the Valentino atelier to secretly sew an evil-eye talisman into the wedding dress using blue thread, reportedly because the family was aware of how poorly the Beckhams regarded their new daughter-in-law.
David and Victoria Beckham have not publicly responded to any of these claims.
