Actor Brad Pitt called filming the 1994 gothic drama Interview with the Vampire a miserable experience during an interview about his career and personal life. The Oklahoma-born Hollywood star made the candid admissions while reflecting on the most difficult film of his career.

Pitt spoke at length to the newspaper The Virginian Post in 1995, when he was in his thirties. The interview took place during a landmark period in his acting career, the same year David Fincher released the thriller Seven, in which Pitt starred alongside Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey.
Despite his growing stardom, Pitt expressed deep dissatisfaction with his role as Louis in Interview with the Vampire, which co-starred Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater, Kirsten Dunst and Stephen Rea.
He explained that he had only a week and a half of rest between finishing the outdoor shoot for Legends of the Fall and starting production on the vampire film.
Set difficulties and character frustration
The actor explained that he did not want to play a vampire and found the character of Louis frustrating to portray. He described the vampire narrator as immobile, noting that the character never moved forward or drove the plot, which left Pitt feeling miserable throughout the shoot.
Pitt added that after spending months outdoors filming Legends of the Fall, waking up every morning to go to an indoor set made him feel unhappy all day. He also addressed rumors of a feud with co-star Tom Cruise, clarifying that any tension or differences between them were strictly due to the roles they were playing on set.
Despite the grueling production experience, Pitt maintained that he was ultimately very satisfied with the finished movie. He explained that he considered Interview with the Vampire to be a deeply poetic film.
Recent career updates and personal admissions
Pitt has long been known for speaking candidly about his life and career. In comments made in 2022, the actor revealed that he had suffered from mild depression for several years.
The actor continues to generate interest with new projects and industry commentary. A planned sequel to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood focused on his character Cliff Booth has experienced delays, though it is scheduled for release in cinemas and on Netflix. Pitt has also recently offered advice to a new generation of actors, expressing concern for the future of the profession.
