Cardi B Says She Beat Odds Balancing Motherhood and Career

Rapper Cardi B spoke about balancing motherhood with her music career and revisited her iconic fashion looks from the Met Gala to Paris Fashion Week.

Cardi B Says She Beat Odds Balancing Motherhood and Career

Rapper Cardi B said she beat the odds balancing her career with raising four children in a Vogue video interview released on Aug. 27, 2026. The musician opened up about the sacrifices involved in providing for her family while maintaining her work as a hit-making artist despite public criticism.

Cardi B is the mother of 8-year-old Kulture, 4-year-old Wave, and 23-month-old Blossom with her ex-husband Offset. She also shares a 9-month-old boy with Stefon Diggs.

Reflecting on her career milestone as the first female artist to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2019, Cardi B discussed navigating personal life events in the spotlight. "I feel like I, I'm not going to say like set an example," she told Vogue. "But it's like I showed a lot of women that it's like you could still work hard and you could still be able to beat the odds with having a baby, and the media, and the criticizing, and work hard and get your job done."

The performer noted how much time had passed since her early breakthrough, stating, "It's seven years later, four kids later. I'm still here, yeah."

Sacrifices of a Touring Musician

Cardi B spoke further about her family life in a tandem Vogue Arabia feature, addressing the challenges of parenting alongside a demanding schedule. She experienced a rocky breakup from Offset in 2024 after seven years of marriage.

"I try my best to have my kids around me as much as possible, but sometimes I can’t be with them," Cardi B explained to Vogue Arabia. She added that mothers have to make sacrifices to support their children.

Comparing her career as a touring musician to other intensive professions, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper noted that work commitments are necessary to provide a better living. "It’s sad, but we need to look at the bigger picture," she said.

She expressed hope that her children will recognize her dedication as they grow older. "I hope that my kids look at what I do and understand, 'Mom was working her ass off.' She wasn’t clubbing, she wasn’t dating, she wasn’t partying…Instead, she was making sacrifices for a better living, you know what I’m saying?"

Fashion and Motherhood

Despite the demands of parenting, Cardi B emphasized in an exclusive interview with E! News that motherhood has not altered her signature approach to fashion.

"F--k that, they haven't changed me for s--t!" Cardi B joked when asked how her children have influenced her personal style. She conceded, however, "I'm not gonna go to my daughter's school with a see-through shirt or with a shirt [where] my nipples are rock hard."

Over the years, the artist, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, has built a reputation for high fashion statement looks across international runways and red carpet events.
