Family members and close friends gathered at a central church in Madrid on Wednesday, August 26, to pay tribute to businesswoman Caritina Goyanes on the second anniversary of her death.
The memorial mass marked two years since Goyanes died suddenly from a heart attack on August 26, 2024, just two weeks after the unexpected death of her father, Carlos Goyanes, who passed away suddenly at the age of 70 on August 7 of that same year.
The private tribute was organized by the Goyanes Lapique family to remember the late entrepreneur. Mother Cari Lapique had previously told Spanish newspaper LA RAZON that the family intended to hold a very private event on Wednesday, strictly for themselves.
Family Arrival and Absent Relatives
Carla Goyanes, sister of Caritina, was among the first attendees to arrive at the central Madrid church for the remembrance service. She arrived accompanied by her husband, Jorge Benguria, and their three young sons, Carlos, Santi, and Beltran.
Speaking minutes before the religious service began, Carla Goyanes said that it was a sad day, adding that such designated dates are typically sad days for the family.
The matriarch of the family, Cari Lapique, was the most notable absence at the Madrid church. Explaining why her mother and other family members were unable to attend, Carla Goyanes said that everyone else was currently staying in Sotogrande, a popular coastal resort in southern Spain. She explained that her own immediate family had already returned to Madrid because her children were training and she and her husband had work commitments.
Support from Close Friends
The service brought together several long-standing family friends alongside immediate relatives. Among those attending the mass was Nuria Gonzalez, who has been one of the principal pillars of emotional support for the family following the sudden loss of Caritina Goyanes two years ago.
The Goyanes Lapique family is widely recognized across Spain, with father Carlos Goyanes having been a prominent businessman and mother Cari Lapique a well-known social figure. The family suffered an extraordinary double tragedy in August 2024 when Carlos and Caritina passed away within days of each other during their summer break.
