After the two-year hiatus caused by the covid-19 pandemic, Ivete Sangalo is back at the helm of the revelry and kicked off this Thursday afternoon at the Carnival of Salvador, the 16th public present at the Farol da Barra, at the event that marks l official start of the fiesta in the capital of Bahia.
“I am very moved and grateful for the opportunity for us to be able to skip Carnival again, to be able to meet, recover the relationship we have with each other. I thank God and the orixás for this opportunity to be in Salvador, Bahia, making Veveta popcorn,” he said.
The party was also marked by the official delivery of the keys to the city, made by Mayor Bruno Reis (PT), to King Momo of Salvador, Alan Nery. “You hand over the key and I hand over everything,” Ivete joked.

The singer then made an invitation “Brazil, come see what the real Carnival is like” and started singing the 2020 hit The world goes. The audience responded and sang along. The Salvador Carnival opening ceremony was broadcast live on TV Globo.
