Admit it, you too, in your dreams, at least once you imagined a handsome prince who would solve all your problems, turn life into a continuous vacation and would be ready to fly to the end of the world for you. The heroines of the films in our selection have all of this come true. We invite you to remember the success stories of cinematic Cinderellas and, at least for a while, to believe in a fairy tale!

In our childhood, we all listened with delight from our parents to a wonderful Cinderella’s story, sincerely and sincerely sympathized with her, suffering from the attacks of insensitive cousins. And at the same time, they especially wanted to be in the place of this poor thing, and also to lose the unfortunate glass slipper, in order to gain much later – the love of a handsome prince. For many girls, this fairy tale has become almost the ideal of any love story, and it is not surprising that they want to watch it, if not in life, then on the screen. From then on, the film adaptations of Cinderella began to replace each other whenever the cinema gave them the opportunity.

Cinema on Cinderella, which told the original story of the fairy tale, began to appear at the end of the 19th century – even when advancements did not allow the characters to speak from the screen. The first attempt to show Cinderella in the cinema took place in 1898 – the Englishman George Albert Smith made a silent short film which told this story. In the future, American filmmakers repeatedly faced Cinderella, but in 1914 everything stopped.

“Cinderella” (1947)

Cinderella returned to the cinema only in the middle of the last century and debuted on Soviet screens. In 1947, a feature film shot by Nadezhda Kosheverova and Mikhail Shapiro was released – the directors did not deviate one step from the classics and were able to convey in their image all the fabulousness, the magic of the story.

The script was created by writer Yevgeny Schwartz, who earlier became the author of the play about Cinderella. And the role of this poor girl, whom everyone could envy at the end of the whole story, went to Yanina Zheymo – a pretty Soviet actress with blond hair, who played her heroine very touchingly. According to the script, Alexei Konsovsky became her handsome prince, and the role of the mother-in-law was played by the legendary Faina Ranevskaya. The film turned out to be such a hit and so loved by the audience that even in our modern years they decided to restore it in color – for half a century of existence the film on which the film was recorded was not in the best condition.

Disney’s Cinderella (1950)

A few years before the release of the Soviet film about Cinderella, the traditional plot was recalled to Walt Disney Studios: in 1944 they began to work on creating a cartoon based on Charles Perrault’s fairy tale. A lot of effort was invested in the cartoon, because the animators spent six whole years on their Cinderella – the result of their work did not hit the screens until 1950. The process was then carried out by him- even. waltz disney, a lot of hopes were pinned on the cartoon – 2.5 million dollars were spent on its production, and for the studio this was considered a very impressive amount that should have lived up to expectations. In doing so, Disney tried to minimize all risks and stick strictly to the classics, as viewers just getting used to the cinematography might not like unexpected twists and departures from the original story. But it all worked out for the best: a box office gross of $4 million allowed Disney to continue creating unforgettable animated works.

“Pretty Woman” (1990)

Since then, many directors have picked up the classics, who wanted to present the familiar story to everyone in an even more colorful and better way and make their own Cinderella movie. However, lately, filmmakers have felt more free in their work and found their interpretations of the traditional plot interesting. There are many cases in life when girls suffer the fate of the famous Cinderella – why not bring this fabulous story closer to reality, to modern reality? Therefore, many relatively recent films are very reminiscent of the same Cinderella in their plot. For example, filmed by director Garry Marshall in 1990, Pretty Woman.

“Princess Diaries” (2001)

The film “Princess Diaries” was created in 2001 by the same Garry Marshall – he really liked to “pull out” the unfortunate girls from the bottom and give them a handsome prince. The film’s main character is an ordinary schoolgirl named Mia, played by Anne Hathaway.

All her life she was a “gray mouse”, which no one noticed at school and, in general, did not want to know. But fate gave her a gift that she did not even suspect, even at birth – the girl was a real princess, heir to the throne in the land of Genoa, where her own grandmother was the queen. As soon as Mia found out about this, everything began to change – and the appearance of the handsome prince was not long in coming.

“Cinderella” (2012)
