On Thursday (23), R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison for child pornography. The 56-year-old singer pleaded guilty to six of 13 charges against him – all filed in 2019 – including forcing minors to engage in sexual activity and making sex tapes involving teenagers. The information comes from Variety.
In the process, it turned out that the singerhe had also produced three videos of himself sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter. However, in this case he was acquitted of obstruction of justice.
It’s worth mentioning that Kelly is already serving a 30-year prison sentence for his 2021 conviction on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Now, the singer will serve this new sentence – with the exception of one year – simultaneously with the previous one.

“The only way to ensure he doesn’t reoffend is to impose a sentence that will keep him in prison for the rest of his life,” said Jeannice Williams Appenteng, one of the prosecutors in the case, as reported by the New York Times.

According to the doc, the singer, convicted of sexual abuse, would have silenced the singer Aaliyah and her family with a non-disclosure agreement after the annulment of their marriage. At the time of their marriage, Aaliyah was just 15 and R. Kelly was 27.
Rumors that the two were in a relationship began to surface in 1994, when R. Kelly mentored, songwriter and produced Aaliyah’s debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. Confirming the rumors, the two married in secret in August of the same year and, although the singer was only 15 years old, the forged marriage certificate showed that she was 18. The union was canceled in February 1995 by her parents by Aaliyah.
