Model Ashley Morgan Smithline has dropped the sexual abuse allegations she made against singer Marilyn Manson. The lawsuit had already been filed in US courts, after she Smithline failed to comply in time with a court ruling.
However, new evidence obtained by The Hollywood Reporter underlines that the model did not want to file a lawsuit against the singer and claims she was “manipulated” by actress Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”), Manson’s ex-girlfriend, and other people to accuse him of abuse.
“I succumbed to pressure from Evan Rachel Wood and his associates to charge me with rape and assault [Manson] that wasn’t true,” he said in a Feb. 19 affidavit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
The statement is part of a lawsuit Manson filed against Wood and Illma Gore, which was filed a month after the lawsuit Smithline filed. In her speech, the model said she had a “brief consensual sexual relationship with Brian Warner,” real name Marilyn Manson, in November 2010.
But ten years later, Smithline said she was approached to join a group of women who claimed they were sexually abused by Manson. And that included “lots of conversation” with Wood.
“I never intended to bring a criminal charge against Mr. Warner and it is not my intention now to bring a criminal charge, as Mr. Warner has never assaulted or abused me,” Smithline said. “Looking back, I feel like I was manipulated by Ms. Wood, Ms. Gore, Ms. [Esmé] Bianco and Mr. Ellwanger to publicly disseminate false allegations of abuse against Mr. warner”.
Gore and Bianco are involved in lawsuits against the singer, claiming he was sexually abused by him. Manson has denied all allegations.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office is still considering whether to file criminal charges against Manson for alleged sex crimes that occurred between 2009 and 2011. Since the statute of limitations for rape in California is 10 years, it may already be too late to file a complaint. a criminal charge in such cases.
