The biographer of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Omid Scobie, revealed that King Charles ordered the youngest and his daughter-in-law to return the house they had in England, Frogmore Cottage, located inside Windsor Castle. The monarch has demanded the return of the mansion after his son published a memoir, titled “O Que Resta,” in early January.
According to the British press, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “shocked” by the British sovereign’s verdict to “expel” them from Frogmore Cottage. Two other members of the Windsor dynasty are also said to be “shocked” by Charles’s decision.
In a British press release, Harry and Meghan confirmed that they have indeed been evicted from the royal residence.
“We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been kindly requested to leave their residence at Frogmore Cottage,” a spokesperson for the couple told reporters on Wednesday (1/3).
Now, the residence must be handed over to Prince Andrew who, involved in the scandal, will leave his home in Windsor and will be “relegated” to live at Frogmore. King Charles III would have personally offered the house to his brother, but Andrea is against the idea of moving.
Now, Harry and Megan’s biggest concern is their safety. They no longer have the security of royalty, and despite having private bodyguards, they would be better protected at Frogmore when in the UK.
Biographer Omid Scobie also revealed that the couple’s relationship with other royals is “at an all-time low”. And an anonymous friend of Harry and Meghan told The Mirror newspaper that the situation is very tense in the royal family: “Everything feels like cruel punishment. It’s as if Charles wants to remove them from the scene forever.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have until after King Charles’s coronation in May to collect their belongings. Previously, the deadline given to the couple was two weeks. They received the villa as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth.
