Leda Nagle attacks neutral language and concern for racist terms: ‘Frescura’

In an interview with Sérgio Mallandro and Renato Rabelo, the journalist refused to use the term “everyone” to refer to non-binary people

Journalist Leda Nagle returned to controversial statements in the “Papagaio Falante” podcast, broadcast last Thursday (2/3). According to her, the neutral language and the censorship of terms considered racist are “a freshness”.

In an interview with Sérgio Mallandro and Renato Rabelo, the journalist refused to use the term “everyone” to refer to non-binary people. “I won’t say ‘everyone’, I will say everyone because everyone means all of us. We all. But I won’t say [o pronome neutro]because I won’t learn about it now,” he tried to justify himself.

“But it’s hard because you don’t even want to offend people. So, the ‘todes’ I think are cool, whoever wants to say I will [estar sendo ofensiva], I will not ban anyone. I want to talk, talk, but I won’t talk [todes]”, He added.

Subsequently, Leda “inconvenienced” herself by not being able to mention terms deemed racist, such as “mulata” and “denigrate”. “There’s a lot of stuff I don’t know how to say these days. You don’t know how to relate to it,” she said.

In her defense, Leda recounted a recent interview she had with a black U.S. visa attorney. The reporter said she didn’t know how to refer to the woman. “And I was there in that situation, because she’s not a neeegra, you know? And I asked, ‘How am I supposed to refer to you?’ And she: ‘I’m Afro-Latina.’ She Look how crazy! She Look how refined she is,” she shot.

In 2021, Leda had to apologize for reproducing fake news involving President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva. And, in October of last year, you opened up for actress Cássia Kis to make homophobic statements, without correcting her.
