Oksana Fedorova and not only: what happened to the Russian winners of world beauty contests

Russian women are called one of the most beautiful women in the world, however, the winners of the main competitions – Miss World and Miss Universe – representatives of our country have not become so often. What happened to them after the triumph, we tell you in our material.

Spoiler: a beauty queen now works in a travel agency!

Oksana Fedorova, 45 years old

Won the Miss Universe pageant in 2002

The life of police captain Oksana Fedorova changed dramatically when she became the main beauty of Russia, and then won the crown at the Miss Universe contest. She was then 24 years old. By the way, not a single representative of our country managed to repeat the success. True, Oksana ultimately lost her title, because she refused to fulfill the contract with the organizers. Fedorova herself explained this by the fact that she had to defend her thesis, and she simply did not have time to travel around the world.

If it did not work out with an international career, then Oksana got used to the world of Russian show business: she started working as a TV presenter, starred in videos, worked as a model and even published a book.

Today, Fedorova is engaged in charity work, attends social events and devotes time to her family. In 2011, she married FSB officer Andrei Borodin and gave birth to two children in marriage: a son, Fedor, and a daughter, Elizaveta.

Julia Kurochkina, 48 years old

Won the Miss World pageant in 1992

Yulia Kurochkina became the first Russian woman to win the crown at the Miss World contest. She was only 18 years old. There were no qualifying competitions in Russia at that time, so she took part directly in the international competition – the organizers noticed a spectacular model at one of the Moscow fur brand shows and offered to participate.

Kurochkina did not have much hope of victory, but it was a good chance to develop a modeling career, so Yulia agreed, although much of the responsibility fell on her – after all, the first participant from Russia.

The whole world gathered a girl for the pageant – her family did not live well and had to borrow a dress for the pageant from a friend, but her mother had already hemmed and decorated it. Nevertheless, the debutante managed to cause a stir and charm all the judges – it was she who won the crown. For some time Kurochkina continued to work as a model, but then she decided to leave show business. Kurochkina returned to live in her native Shcherbinka near Moscow, stopped communicating with the press, got married, had a daughter and now works as the director of her own travel agency.

Ksenia Sukhinova, 35 years old

Won the Miss World pageant in 2008

The Russians could not repeat Kurochkina’s success in the contest for a long time – in the end, only Ksenia Sukhinova succeeded, who won the 58th International Beauty Contest in Johannesburg. This time, the Russian candidate was already well prepared – she received the crown in a luxurious blue dress from Valentin Yudashkin. Before going to the world championship, Ksenia won the national Miss Russia contest in 2007.

After the Miss World contest, Sukhinova was actively involved in her representative duties: she organized charity events and became the face of the Eurovision music contest, which was held in Moscow in 2009.

Sukhinova also continued to work as a model with the Yudashkin brand and starred in Dima Bilan’s videos for the songs Hold and Don’t Cry Girl.

The personal life of a spectacular blonde has always been a cause for gossip, as her reluctant beauty commented. She was not officially married, but her romances sparked gossip columns. For seven years she met billionaire and “sausage king” Sergei Govyadin, who built her a luxurious mansion, but did not call her down the aisle. In 2015 they broke up and since then nothing was known about Xenia’s chosen ones until rumors spread about her romance with another wealthy businessman and vodka tycoon Yuri Shefler in 2021. In the summer of 2022, it was learned that Sukhinova had given birth to her first child, presumably from Shefler, but she has not officially commented on this.
