Prosecutor wants Ratinho to pay R$2 million for misogyny

In 2021 Ratinho attacked the congresswoman, saying he would machine-gun her for calling for the expression “husband and wife” to be removed from the civil union

OR Federal prosecutor (MPF) has called for the conviction of Carlos Massa, the little mousefor biased speeches about the federal deputy Natalia Bonavidesfrom PT to Rio Grande do Norte, in a program of Mass radio airing in 2021.

In the action, the body asks him to pay R$ 2 million in compensation and to conduct awareness campaigns on women’s rights and the fight against gender-based violence.

Ratinho attacked the deputy, saying he would have shot her for calling for the expression “husband and wife” to be removed from the civil union. The measure was intended to avoid prejudice against the LGBTQIAP+ community and promote equal treatment for all citizens.

“Natália, you have nothing to do, do you? You have nothing to do, my dear? Go wash your husband’s clothes, his underwear, because it’s stupid to want to change that kind of thing. I had to get rid of these crazy people. You don’t know how to handle a machine gun, do you?”, he said on the program “Turma do Ratinho”, broadcast on Massa FM.

At the time, Natalia countered the misogynistic talk. “The presenter Ratinho suggested that I be machine-gunned in a program watched by thousands of people. Inciting murder is a crime! It puts my life and physical integrity at risk. Ratinho also said that I was going to wash my husband’s underwear”, she rebelled.

“These cowardly threats and attacks will not go unpunished. The presenter has used a public concession to commit a crime.”

According to the MPF, the SBT presenter caused “collective harm to women who work or intend to work in politics” by ignoring a bill proposed by the PT MP. Ratinho is also accused of spreading gender stereotypes on national television.

In the public civil action, the agency is asking for compensation of R$ 2 million and the broadcasting on its radio of campaigns on women’s rights and the fight against gender-based violence for at least one year.
