In the coffin of likes: the most ridiculous deaths of bloggers

To surprise subscribers, bloggers and social media experts are ready for anything. Sometimes their ideas cost them their lives or those of their loved ones. We tell you about these sad cases.

Death due to a “rotten” dropper

The most recent resounding case is the death of a blogger and student of IM Sechenov Medical University Anna Kolyada and her boyfriend, the founder of Sbermarket Dmitry Zhulin, from a dropper with the drug Laennec.

The couple have been “dropping” for several months now (there is an opinion that the drug strengthens the immune system and has a rejuvenating effect), but this time Anna diluted the drug in advance – it remained in a container made of plastic for three days and only then was it used. As a result, both ended up in a toxicological intensive care unit: Anna died, and Dmitry managed to get out. According to doctors, such fatal consequences could arise from the fact that the protein in the preparation remained coagulated for three days and an infection appeared in it, which led to the development of a toxic allergic reaction and a blood poisoning.

Many online have wondered how a fifth-year medical student could not be aware of such danger and risk.

Death due to dry ice

Another high-profile case where, it seems, the participants should have foreseen the consequences of their act, but, alas, everything turned out differently.

Blogger and pharmacist Ekaterina Didenko rose to fame across the country under tragic circumstances. In 2020, she celebrated her 29th birthday in the bath complex – the party was held on a large scale, the blogger shot videos and photos and immediately shared them with subscribers. At one point, for spectacular shots, 25 kg of dry ice was thrown into the pool. After the reaction with the water, a “fog” hung over the pool, into which some party participants decided to jump. As a result, three people died from chemical burns and asphyxiation, including Didenko’s husband.

The fact is that when interacting with water, dry ice emits poisonous carbon dioxide – it was they who inhaled the victims. How Didenko, who she says graduated from the Pyatigorsk Medical and Pharmaceutical Institute, could not find out, is still unknown. But the tragic story did not interfere with the success of the woman’s blogs – on the contrary, Didenko became the star of the talk show and gained new subscribers.

Death due to a bullet in a book

American Monaliza Perez was widowed following the likes suit, which in 2017 accidentally killed her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz while filming a video. The girl at that time was only 19 years old, and her boyfriend was 22 years old. They already had a child, and at the time of the tragic events, Monalisa was pregnant again.

To diversify the content of their channel, the couple decided to make “the most dangerous video”, as they announced. The girl was supposed to shoot the guy through a thick book. Both were sure that the bullet would get stuck there, but in reality everything turned out differently – Pedro was fatally injured in the chest and died, despite the efforts of doctors to save him. By the way, the idea for a difficult challenge belonged to the girl’s boyfriend. Monalisa herself was eventually convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 180 days in jail and ten years probation.

Death from exhaustion

In this case, it was not the blogger himself who paid for the crazy ideas, but his child, which, however, makes the situation even more nightmarish. Blogger-foodist Maxim Lyuty not only regularly fed on the energy of the sun, but also hastened to accustom his newborn baby to it. The result was predictable: a one-month-old baby died of exhaustion.

Death by selfie

The death of bloggers from selfies already seems to have become commonplace – unfortunately, the urge for spectacular shots in dangerous locations has already driven many to the grave. Such a fate in 2021 befell Sophia Chung from China. Extreme selfies were her thing – almost the entire girl’s blog was devoted to such photos. Subscribers actively liked bold photos, but one day luck turned away from Sofia. When she took a photo of a waterfall in Ha Pak Lai Nature Park in Hong Kong, Chung lost her balance and fell into the abyss.
