Gwyneth Paltrow cleared of skiing accident

A court ruled that Gwyneth Paltrow did not cause the ski collision that would have left retired optometrist Terry Sanderson with a traumatic brain injury.

The jury in Park City, Utah, concluded that Sanderson was responsible for the collision and had to pay the symbolic amount of US $ 1, requested by the actress, to cover the damages of the accident.

Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist, is suing Paltrow over the collision, which occurred in 2016 at the Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah.

Sanderson sought nearly $300,000 in damages, claiming the actress caused the collision that resulted in four broken ribs and brain damage from a concussion.

Paltrow testified last week that Sanderson skied into her. Her lawyers have strongly suggested that Sanderson sees Paltrow as a potential ATM and that the star refuses to settle the case for fear of setting a bad example for her children.

In closing arguments, Sanderson’s attorney Robert Sykes dismissed allegations that he was seeking fame and attention. Since the incident, the defender said, Sanderson “hasn’t been home.” “Part of him will always be on that mountain,” he said.

Paltrow’s lawyer Steve Owens, meanwhile, said in closing that for Paltrow it’s a matter of right and wrong and that it would be “easy” for her to “write a check and be done with it” but said it would be “wrong.” ” and he didn’t want to set a bad example for his children.

“It’s really wrong that he hurt her and he wants money from her,” the attorney told the jury. He added, “He has a right to be here today, but he has no right to be compensated for hurting her.”

Another attorney for the actress, James Egan, in his closing part, referenced the comments from the opposing side, saying, “Mrs. Paltrow wants it off the mountain too, but she shouldn’t be responsible for the cost of that.”

Paltrow told the jury the collision occurred on the first day of a trip to Deer Valley in which she was with her two sons, then engaged [e hoje marido] Brad Falchuck and his two sons.

She testified that two of her skis jammed between her skis, forcing her legs apart, and that she heard a “grunt” when she felt a body press into her back before the two fell together.

Paltrow said she did not ask about Sanderson’s condition after the collision, but said she stayed on the mountain “long enough for him to say he was fine” and to get up.

During his testimony, Sanderson reiterated that it was Paltrow who skied into him.

“I was hit in the back really hard, right in the shoulder blades… I’ve never been hit that hard,” Sanderson testified. “All I saw was a lot of snow.”

Sanderson has disputed suggestions that he was suing Paltrow to exploit his fame and wealth.

“I thought, ‘I don’t like celebrity worship,'” Sanderson told the judging panel upon finding out who the other skier was involved in the collision.

Jurors also heard from a variety of expert witnesses, Sanderson’s daughters, and testimony from ski resort employees. Testimony from Paltrow’s two sons, Apple and Moses Martin, was also read to the jury during the trial. Ultimately, the ‘Shakespeare in Love’ star won and was cleared by the judging panel.
