“A few months ago, my house caught fire. As I was putting my daughters to bed and finishing up bath time, smoke started seeping through the grout around the bathtub. When I looked out into the hallway, a river of thick black smoke had already settled, formed and filled the house,” he wrote.

“One thing about fires: They happen fast. I had about two minutes to get my three daughters out of the house and we escaped with less than shoes on. But we made it out. And for that I will be forever grateful. Our four pets We’re still grieving this loss, but we’re lucky to have loved them anyway.”

In the publication, Catherine also thanked the firefighters, detectives, neighbors, colleagues and all the people who offered to help in any way after the fire. “What we have learned is that the only thing that matters is the people (and beings) you love. The only thing that matters is the community. We wouldn’t be here without it and we are so grateful to you. Thank you,” she said.
