Metallica meets an 85-year-old fan

In October 2009, before a show in Tampa, Metallica caught up with 85-year-old fan Margaret Prieb. The musicians discovered their fan through the local newspaper: an elderly lady told reporters how heavy music calmed her down. A year earlier, Margaret was battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy sessions, listening to Metallica songs at night, distracted from her anxious thoughts.

The band members, without hesitation, invited Margaret backstage before the concert. Each of the band members spent time with her, and at the end of the meeting, the musicians signed the album Death Magnetic for Margaret. “They turned out to be just as I imagined them, very good,” the fan said after the meeting.
