Abuse, drugs, amnesia: The dramatic life of Friends star Matthew Perry

Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing on Friends, has struggled with drugs and addiction for years. In a candid interview with The Sun, his former love Katie Edwards spilled some nasty details about their relationship. But the addiction interfered with him even after this novel…

Katie Edwards bought him drugs

Don’t take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

The actor had many affairs, including a brief relationship with Julia Roberts in 1995. In 1997 he ended up in a rehab center due to an addiction to painkillers, and in 2001 he returned there to get rid of the habit of more serious substances.

Katie Edwards had been with him for about a year, and this relationship can hardly be called happy. They met while Katie was visiting her grandparents: Matthew was discussing the details of auditioning for the role with his grandfather at the time.

In an interview with The Sun, she admitted the actor asked her and then forced her to buy drugs from him. She was five months pregnant (the child’s father is not Parry), and he said, “You sure won’t be arrested.” Katie had to communicate with dealers, buy drugs ordered by Matthew (she was given a bag in exchange for money), and she could not refuse this. Katie also didn’t want to let him out – the actor had a strong withdrawal and the police could arrest him.

Sometimes Katie would even deliver drugs to him on the set of the TV show Mr Sunshine. Of course, no one suspected it. Over time, Katie began to feel unease over this relationship and opted to part ways with the actor, disappearing from the radar for almost 20 years.

Lizzy Caplan tried to heal, but couldn’t

The actress spent six years next to Matthew – from 2006 to 2012. They met when he had already finished filming Friends, coped with drug cravings and was open to a relationship.

It is curious that the lovers managed to hide their romance for six years! They’ve been seen together many times, but Lizzy and Matthew have always convinced audiences that they’re just friends. And only after the separation the truth was revealed.

Lizzie never mentioned Perry’s drug problems. They broke up because they weren’t ready for family life. Kaplan then married Tom Riley.

Molly Hurwitz agreed to marry him

The actor met literary director Molly Hurwitz in mid-2018. Despite the 22-year age difference, the two have developed strong feelings for each other. The other day, the couple announced their engagement and the actor’s friends were very happy for him: he had never been married.

Parry has yet to resolve his issues with intoxicants. It was Molly who persuaded him to undergo another treatment in order to get rid of the addiction. Obviously, the girl assumed that the “Friends” star could offer her a hand and a heart, and she did not want to bring old troubles into a happy life. They will surely want to have a baby if the relationship continues, and Molly clearly has no intention of giving birth to a drug addict! Close friends of the couple say she has always supported and helped him through difficult times. In May 2020, Matthew and Molly decided to move on, but later got back together.

Parry himself has repeatedly admitted that he suffered from substance abuse and drug addiction for many years, and he barely remembers filming all three seasons of Friends. Moreover, it was after the announcement of the engagement in the media that Katie Edwards turned to talk about the difficulties in relations with the actor. Parry has yet to comment on his performance.
