ABBA guitarist Lasse Wellander has died at the age of 70


The family members revealed the death of the musician through his official page on social networks; Lasse was battling cancer.




Lasse Wellander, guitarist of the group ABBA, died at the age of 70 last Friday, 7. According to the musician’s family on his official Facebook page, he was battling cancer.

“It is with indescribable sadness that we have to announce that our beloved Lasse has passed away. Lasse recently fell ill with what turned out to be metastatic cancer, and earlier on Good Friday he passed away, surrounded by his loved ones,” it reads in the press release. . .

Calling him an “incredible” and “humble” musician, the post also honors the guitarist as a “wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.”

“A center in our lives, and it’s amazing that we now have to live without you. We love you and miss you so much. Lena, Ludvig and Andreas,” the family members added.

Lasse has performed over 24 ABBA songs. He began his story with the guitar when he was still a child in Nora, Sweden, where he was born. It was in October 1974 that he joined ABBA, together with Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

The musician also participated in the soundtrack of the film Mamma Mia, starring great actresses such as Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried.
