Selma Blair, who has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, is on the cover of British Vogue

American actress Selma Blair (“Legally Blonde”) posed with a cane for the cover of the May issue of British Vogue magazine. Blair, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, appeared on the cover wearing a beige Valentino dress, letting the spotlight fall on her cane. The cover image was released on the magazine’s social networks.

“I have a physical and emotional connection to the cane,” the actress told Vogue. “I settle into my body and my voice once I hold it. It’s an extension of me. And I know it increases visibility.”

In the interview, Selma Blair said she lived with the disease for 40 years before she was diagnosed, revealing that she had symptoms since she was a child: at the age of seven, her right eye, left leg and bladder they no longer worked properly. But at the time, the doctors just said she wanted attention. “If you’re a boy with these symptoms, get an MRI. If you’re a girl, they call you crazy,” the actress vented.

All those years without a diagnosis have left sequelae. Blair said the frontal lobe of her brain was damaged as a result of the disease. The consequences for her mental health have also been great: in addition to anxiety, the actress has attempted suicide more than once.

In remission since 2021, when she began stem cell transplant treatment, Blair has become an activist advocating for people with disabilities.

She is known for blockbuster movie hits like ‘Cultivated Intentions’ (1999), ‘Legally Blonde’ (2001), ‘Hellboy’ (2005) and its 2008 sequel ‘Lost in Space’ and ‘Another Life’ on Netflix. In 2022, she released her memoir, “Mean Baby”—which became a bestseller—and released a documentary, “Introducing, Selma Blair.”
