Marina Sena: ‘This record is a reaffirmation to the market that my success was not an accident’

In “Vício Inerente”, the singer innovates in the “summer in the big city” sound.

“This record is a reassurance to the market that my success wasn’t an accident. Sometimes people say I was lucky to ‘smack’ the first album. But, love, that’s just the tip of the iceberg “. That’s like, “with two feet in the door,” that Marina Sena go back to streams.

The singer has released her new album, inherent vicethis Thursday 27, and the “tip of the iceberg”, described by her, comes with more depth in the lyrics and a sound never seen before in At the starthis debut album.

How do you differentiate your composition in ‘De Primeira’ and ‘Vício Inherente’?

I feel that the metric of things in the first disc follows one thing and, in this new one, the composition is already in another way, with another kind of experimentation. I began to realize, in my profession as a composer, that depending on the instrument you use to compose, the song comes out differently.

If you’re sitting here, guitar on your lap and composing, this song will go in a different flow than if you’re already composing over a beat. That’s how I did it inherent viceI had the ability to distort voice and play with multiple technologies.

How did the idea of bringing such a different sound to the album come about?

The fact that I moved to São Paulo and connected with other sounds was what influenced me. There’s a very strong relationship here with electronic music, right? When I started logging into this, this city runs through you and there comes a time where you can only do something like this.

‘Tudo Para Amar Você’ was the first song, released in February. Why did you choose her to start this new era of your career?

I think it prepares people for this experimental thing that I’m bringing to the record. There’s that distorted vocal already, but it’s warmer and more danceable. It’s like a warning: ‘Guys, I’m going on a trip, get ready, I’m already warning you’.

You will be honoring Gal Costa at The Town (festival), what is its importance to your art?

No one is more my reference than Gal Costa. She is in everything I do, she is my reference for voice, performance, fashion and behavior. It runs completely through my work

And then I always wanted to do a show singing Gal and I was waiting for the best opportunity, on an interesting stage, where she deserves it. This show will definitely mark my career forever.
