The new movie “The Little Mermaid,” another adaptation of Andersen’s fairy tale, won’t hit global screens until May 24, but it’s been talked about for a long time. At first, many were outraged that The Little Mermaid was played by black actress Halle Bailey. However, now it becomes clear that the choice of casting directors could not have been random at all!

One of the critics, who has already seen the picture at the press screening, said the film has clear parallels with Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. Besides, there is a rather insulting attack on the latter in The Little Mermaid.

One scene in particular feels pretty literal.

“Ariel sacrificed her voice to come to the surface to meet Prince Eric. She can’t speak, so he tries to guess her name. His first guess is Diana. His second guess is Katherine, but after Ariel’s reaction at the name in disgust, he concludes, “OK, definitely not Katherine,” the critic told Page Six.

He also noted that there was nothing in the film’s internal logic to explain the mermaid’s reaction. Needless to say, Diana is the name of Prince Harry’s late mother, while Katherine is the full name of his sister-in-law, the Princess of Wales, also known as Kate Middleton. The feud between her and Megan repeatedly became the subject of tabloid publications.

The most direct comparison between the heroes of the film and Megan and Harry is also obvious: the Little Mermaid in the new version has dark skin, while Prince Eric is white.

Well, the most interesting thing is that in her infamous 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Markle herself said she identifies with The Little Mermaid.

She remembers watching the classic 1989 animated film during the tumultuous period of her life after marrying Harry in 2018.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, she falls in love with a prince and she loses her voice because of it,'” Markle said at the time, hinting that she was under pressure in the palace and couldn’t talk about it. .
