Leonardo DiCaprio had been waiting for the coveted golden figure for 22 years – and he did! But not always the love of the audience, unconditional professionalism and unforgettable roles guarantee the receipt of an award, which is considered the main in world cinema. We have collected some vivid examples of actors who have never received an Oscar.
Glenn Close
An absolute legend and top professional, Glenn has played many truly incredible roles that have been included in the World Cinema Gold Fund – but she was never awarded the coveted Golden Statuette. Although her very first role (Close played in the adaptation of John Irving’s novel The World According to Garp) received a nomination, and since then the name of the actress has sounded eight times on the awards stage. Glenn was 74 in 2021 when she was last nominated for her role in Hillbilly’s Elegy, and once again left without a statuette, she said it would be cool to never receive an Oscar at all. “Maybe it’s better to be pumped into a wheelchair and get a lifetime achievement award? Then you don’t have to give a speech,” the diva joked. Or are you kidding?

Tom Cruise
Tom usually has a difficult relationship with the Oscars – he literally ran away from the last prize, just so as not to run into his ex-wife Nicole Kidman (by the way, she has five nominations and the coveted statuette for her role as a writer Virginia Woolf in the 2003 film The Hours).

Tom has been nominated four times, but to no avail. And, to be honest, we already have little confidence that he’ll show off his dramatic talent – Cruise is clearly choosing paying projects. Well, the public is satisfied with everything.
Michelle Pfeiffer
Michelle literally burst onto the big screen, playing an unforgettable role in 1983’s Scarface – and for many years continued her ascent to the Olympus of acting fame, becoming one of the most beautiful on-screen beauties. most recognizable and most loved by the public. Her merits were marked with numerous major awards and three Oscar nominations, but, alas, Michelle never received the statuette. But in 2007, she opened a nominal star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Edward Norton
One of the brightest actors of the 90s and zero, Norton was nominated three times for an Oscar (for his work in the films American History X, Birdman, Primal Fear), but each time someone another took the statuette. In recent years, Edward has sadly had no meaningful work (although we were happy to see him in the second film in the Knives Out franchise), but the footage of his Fight Club characters, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Kill Smoochy and “Painted Veil” forever in our hearts and without any confirmation from the film academy.
bradley cooper
6 nominations and not a single victory! Of course, this guy was very lucky even without an Oscar in his life (everyone, you know, doesn’t have an Irina Shayk daughter), but it was probably a little insulting when, for example, my partner in the film My Boyfriend is Crazy, Jennifer Lawrence, received him a statuette, and the performer of the role of the psychopath himself left without a salty slurping. Nothing, Bradley, you have your whole life ahead of you, and worthy roles abound!
Sharon Stone
Ageless Sharon’s most famous film will seemingly forever go down as ‘Basic Instinct’, but she received her Oscar nomination for ‘Casino’ – however, she never received the award. That didn’t stop Stone from becoming a legend, and it’s unlikely this beautiful, strong woman has ever said her last word in film.
Johnny Depp
He starred with the best directors in the most prominent projects, and no one doubted his talent – but Depp never received the main award. And then a resounding scandal with ex-wife Amber Heard, who accused Johnny’s multi-generational pet of abuse and every sin imaginable, seemed to end his career. But the unbelievable happened – the court actually sided with Depp, and the actor not only returned to the handshake camp, but celebrated his triumph at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival – the role in the drama Jeanne Dubarry became the first premiere with her participation in a long time. Depp himself now says he’s much more interested in independent European cinema than in Hollywood and, apparently, is willing to put up with the absence of a golden mantelpiece. Well, to tell the truth, he had bigger problems.
Amy Adams
If anyone asked us, we’d give Amy an Oscar for her moving performance in 2003’s Arrival (after all, there’s hardly another film on such a grand scale and big budget about the importance of a philological vocation), but for this role, Adams The main film award was not even nominated. Although his track record includes 6 cases where the Oscar was almost in his hands. Alas! But the red-haired beauty, who rose to fame thanks to the comic role of the fairy-tale princess Giselle, has repeatedly demonstrated her outstanding and diverse acting talent, so we hope that she will still get the statuette.
